I liked this, it actually held my attention a lot more than a lot of other urban fantasy, sometimes it feels like I am reading the same thing over and over. I liked Anita, she was really funny in her own way. And I really liked Edwards, even though I'm pretty sure you're not really supposed to. I'm on the fence with this book. I really wanted to love it, but I only liked it, sort of.... I guess I will have to give it 3.5 stars; the ending had some strong points that left me wanting more. Well, the whole book did actually, but not in a good way like the ending did! I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a new world and knew nothing about it and worse, couldn't learn anything about it from what I was seeing or reading in this case.

Fantastic

Laurell never disappoints. This is my fifth time reading this book and I never tire of it. A glimpse into the world of Anita Blake which opens more and more after every book.

At times I just had to laugh out loud at this story. I hope this story was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek because that was how I read it. This book had vampires, ghouls, zombies and were-rats. Yes, you read that right, were-rats. Scarred "executioner" Anita Blake is coerced into investigating the vampire murders, although she probably should have been the number one suspect.
