I liked this, it actually held my attention a lot more than a lot of other urban fantasy, sometimes it feels like I am reading the same thing over and over. I liked Anita, she was really funny in her own way. And I really liked Edwards, even though I'm pretty sure you're not really supposed to. I listened to this on audio and the narrator was great, but it had these super weird sound effects. I think they were supposed to be like movie sound effects whenever something scary is happening, but it ...more

I'm on the fence with this book. I really wanted to love it, but I only liked it, sort of.... I guess I will have to give it 3.5 stars; the ending had some strong points that left me wanting more. Well, the whole book did actually, but not in a good way like the ending did! I felt like I was dropped in the middle of a new world and knew nothing about it and worse, couldn't learn anything about it from what I was seeing or reading in this case.

Laurell never disappoints. This is my fifth time reading this book and I never tire of it. A glimpse into the world of Anita Blake which opens more and more after every book.

At times I just had to laugh out loud at this story. I hope this story was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek because that was how I read it. This book had vampires, ghouls, zombies and were-rats. Yes, you read that right, were-rats. Scarred "executioner" Anita Blake is coerced into investigating the vampire murders, although she probably should have been the number one suspect. Logic will not help you with this story, just be prepared for a wild, and nonsensical ride. ...more
