This is my second time through...only this time I'm listening to the early books rather than reading them and I swear they are better. Guess I just really like the reader. :) I must say that I'm impressed with how well the books hold up. It's crazy to think that they were written 20 years ago...I had never really appreciated Hamilton's ability to keep most "time sensitive" references out of her writing until now. ...more

I gave this a really low review. I don't like giving a really bad review. I think if you are brave enough to create something and put it out there for the world- that takes some balls and I respect that. So I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because I've heard this series is AMAZING. Have I been a victim of some weird switcheroo?

The characters do not act logically in any form or fashion which normally reading Romance I can suspend disbelief- but come on! The main character- So I'm a "vampire co

I've heard a lot about the Anita Blake series, and I've finally started to read it!
I thought the first book was a nice insider to Laurell Hamilton's world, without it seeming like reading a description. I liked that you got bits and pieces as you read until basically the entire world was laid out for you.
I love Anita's personality and I love her strong, kick-butt attitude. I also love that she admitted when she was terrified of something, and that she was smart enough to know that she may very w

A nice quick-to-read story

Nothing too new when you've read your share of Urban Fantasy, but still a bit different considering Anita's profession.
I liked that the story didn't do the (by now) "usual" turn into loads of freaky supernatural sex, but I've heard that changes as the series progresses. I'll likely read the next book sometime, but it's not high on my TBR.
The most disappointing thing that kept this from being a 4 star book, was the ending which seemed very rushed with everything going ju

I'm not sure how I actually feel about Anita Blake after reading this book. There was so much going on that I feel like something fell through the cracks for me.

I guess, I can still say that it was never a dull moment though.

I am going to read at least one more before I decide rather or not I am an Anita Blake fan or not.

I was really not impressed by this. It had serious potential, but there were just too many things going on, not enough explanation and I personally hated the writing style and found it difficult to follow.
