I can find no fault with Cloud Atlas.
Because of that I have had a difficult time coming up with this review. This book could have gone all wrong, its premise could have easily tipped this book over the edge into gimmick but David Mitchell pulled this off seamlessly. It blows my mind.
This book is six very different stories, occurring in different time periods that on the surface have nothing to do with each other. Yet they have everything to do with each other.

A stunningly strange series of interweaving sketches that include conspiracy, doomsday, alien, all explorations of sacrifice, politics, love and lust. Hauntingly mind-blowing.
Things I liked:
I love the way each of his characters (so far at least) seem to be addressing a particular person (a personal journal in the first part and a correspondent in the second case).
He's clever in using language appropriate to the setting of each of the first three stories.
The premise: I guess there's meant to be something to connect each of the stories so far I'm intrigued by the premise and drawn along by the characters and writing so I figure that's a pretty good combo.

6 different stories with 6 very different voices. I was really into the first half of the book. My urge to read wasn't as strong in the second half because - each story has a unique place, location, and plot and it was hard to remember what had happened previously. The thread connecting all of the stories was a bit weak, I thought, but overall, I found this book engaging and recommend it.
