I picked up the book, hoping that my girls would find it a captivating story if I actually read it to them and I can say it was a success!!
We find in the beginning that Bilbo Baggins enjoys his little hobbit hole and a hot cup of tea and is not one for Big adventures, at least not yet. The girls and I became very fond of Mr. Baggins and were always worried what new problem he would encounter. This world we were introduced to had variety of different characters from dwarves, to elves, to goblins, ...more

The Hobbit was a good read however I think I would have enjoyed it more had I read it before reading the Lord of the Rings trilogy and seeing the movies. The idea I had in my head of Bilbo from those sources was very different from the Bilbo at the beginning of this book. However this was a fun read and I did enjoy reading about Bilbo's many, many adventures looking for the dwarfs' treasure and meeting elves, Gollum, and a dragon.
