Catch 22 has been so adopted by popular culture that it has become its own phrase in common literature. A phrase meaning a no-win scenario, either because of contradictions or difficulties within a situation. Before I read Catch 22 it had been explained to me that the catch 22 within the novel was that the main character Yossarian, could avoid doing the deadly bomb-runs as a pilot if he was crazy. I've been having the hardest time collecting my thoughts well enough about this book to write a coherent review. In the spirit of the glorious incoherent disjointedness of the book, I decided to give up on waiting for coherency and just react.
First, I have to confess that I read most of this book in hour-long chunks while on a treadmill at the gym. I tend to do this a lot, but this is the first time that a book has both made me laugh out loud and cry in public.

The funniest book I have ever read. So much of what happens just seems crazy. Major Major was just a sad, sad character, who made me laugh over and over. The dialogue was superb. The action was kept the pace up, and the pages just flew by. It is a book everyone should read at some point in their life, it's that memorable.
