The story is fragmented between characters associated with Yossarian, the protagonist bombardier in the 256th US Army Air Corps squadron located on the island of Pianosa, Italy during World War II. Although full of satirical humor, there is a common thread Joseph Heller, the author, conveyed that war causes much madness both in the literal and metaphorical sense
