Myta (mytsanti) | 3 comments Hello!

What books would you all recommend if I were to create a list of books for an World Literature class's book report?

Books on top of my head:
1984
Animal Farm
To Kill A Mockingbird
Picture of Dorian Gray
A Tale of Two Cities
Crime and Punishment
Doctor Zhivago
Fahrenheit 451
Pride and Prejudice
The Great Gatsby
Brave New World
Things Fall Apart
Jane Eyre
A Movable Feast

... and of course I'll let them pick a contemporary book they've read and like.

Need advice.

Thanks!

MK (wisny) | 2579 comments Yes, some good lists there, Kathy!

Myta, Here're two, that are somewhat related. I am reading Slaughterhouse-Five right now, it's very good! How about that one? Catch-22 is funny, and good, as well. Just a little tricky if they don't know ahead of time that it hops around the timeline, indiscriminately, and keeps revisiting the same event(s).

I loved Brave New WorldBrave New World! That's a good one. So is East of Eden, btw!

MK (wisny) | 2579 comments ps - Myta, you should check out this group, which I joined just a couple months ago. I am NOT a teen :p, but no matter, the books are wonderful, and might suit your purposes:

Myta (mytsanti) | 3 comments Hello all and thanks for the suggestions. :)

Slaughterhouse-Five is definitely on my list of things to read, as much as it is on my list of books great for HS book reports. :P And thanks for the link! I think I'll suggest that link to them in case they don't know what to read.

Maggie | 112 comments What about some Shakespeare? Romeo and Juliet was my favourite high school Literature class read but other plays like Hamlet or Julius Caesar would be suitable too.

Hi Maggie,

Shakespeare is in our curriculum so The Bard will be taught no matter what. I should have mentioned this before asking. Thank you still. :)

Oh yes, those are good suggestions. Thank you!
