Absolutely amazing.....I loved it! Wilkie Collins was vastly underrated. In my opinion, it's a must read for anyone who loves classics and has not yet read it. ...more

I had never heard of this book before beginning to explore the classics this year. When I learned that it is considered the first mystery novel I was excited to read it and moved it up my list. I wanted to love this book. Unfortunately I found it to be slow and didn't find enough tension. However, I also believe that I will read it again in my future... giving it a second chance. I am questioning whether it was the book that failed to enchant me or whether I was failing to pay attention. ...more

Abso-freaking-lutely awesome! This book had it all: intrigue, mystery, suspense, mistaken identities, clandestine meetings, an insane asylum, and dastardly motives. That's right, I said "dastardly"! This lengthy novel was told from the point of view - in the form of written testimonies - from different

a great old title
For a book that was written in the 1800's, it is very well done. I liked the method of reading with different narrators from different points of view. I liked the mystery and the setting. On the downside, the last quarter of the book was very anti-climatic. It was way too long of a book to end so slowly. Still, the rest was worth the listen.

Awesome...and sooooo well written. But if you don't like words..you won't like it.
It is very very descriptive..which I love.
I enjoyed all the characters..all of them..the good, the bad, the crazy!
I think this is a classic...If it isn't ..it should be.
