Absolutely amazing.....I loved it! Wilkie Collins was vastly underrated. In my opinion, it's a must read for anyone who loves classics and has not yet read it.

I was not expecting this at all. It's a little low brow, but it's suspenseful, and the characters are beautifully drawn. Pesca, Mr Fairlie and Fosco are my favourites – their appearance, speech and behaviour are all so unique and fantastically painted. The shifting narrators, each with their own style and tone, adds an additional element of liveliness, humour and irony.

I thought this would be some long, gothic ghost story but it's more like a Victorian detective novel. Unlike most Victorian novels, this one has no long, boring parts. There's always something of interest going on, always a new twist or turn.
I did get a little lost on the details as I read this book over a very long period of time but it almost doesn't matter. ...more
