Out of Africa is Karen Blixen’s (writing as Isak Dinesen) beautiful, classic memoir of her years living in Africa and managing a 6,000 acre coffee plantation there. Her time there spanned 17 years beginning in 1914 and ending when the farm failed. The memoir consists of non-chronological vignettes loosely organized around topics.

I loved the film Out of Africa – the story of Karen Blixen leaving her native Denmark and going to Kenya to manage a coffee plantation in 1914.
While the writing is beautiful, this is one of the few times that I enjoyed the movie more than the book. While we get to know much of her relationship with Africa and its people, there is very little about her personal life (this is a memoir). Relationships were much more to the forefront in the film. I have read this book a number of times. Beautifully written. Karen's love affair with her farm in Africa.
