Hemingway's style helps this WWI love story/tragedy transcend its time and place. From the the first chapter, we could be writing about any war near any mountains. I knew how this ended which I know some readers hate, it was still a great read.

Something that caught me was how quick Henry went from receiving a medal of honor to the label of deserter and how the hero went from Henry to Catherine. Nothing last forever. Things change.

Dialogue was too confusing and jumbled, plotline was boring and slow until the predictable - and depressing - ending. Did not love it and I wonder how it became a well known classic.

Hemingway is funny...I have such trouble getting into his books/short stories, and when I finish them, I can't figure out what the problem was. :) Farewell To Arms is no different. I started this book last summer and have been in and out of it, but by the second half of the book I couldn't put it down and had tears in my eyes when I got to the end. Stick with it...this is a good one. :) ...more
