Random fact: Vanya translates to John in English. The literal title of Chekhov's play in English is Uncle John.

I've been on a Chekhov binge this year comparing various translations. Uncle Vanya is the best of the lot, and I am looking forward to reading Annie Baker's translation more than any other. ...more

Rating is based on translation. Not a great translation, but a serviceable one. I’m still looking for something with more universality in the language. Proper review will follow soon.

Clear, sturdy translation is somewhat stilted by Stark Young. Too influenced by the British translations of the day.
