What Members Thought
This book started off pretty well; I was jazzed during the first part as the narrator sets the reader up for a profound experience. However, as I moved through it became evident that this wasn’t quite the exceptional novel I thought it might be. 'i am of the earth, earthy...' brilliant. and i am finally finished with this book! school readings have taken precedence lately. :') while i will say that the first half of the book didn't capture me quite as attentively as the last half, i nonetheless am glad to have finally read more of maugham's work. he may not be able to write american dialogue worth a penny or three, but he can surely turn a phrase and effortlessly pierce your heart.

Some of Maugham's stories are a bit preachy, to me. But this one got me thinking about how to be a better person without making me feel ashamed of my weaknesses. The Razor's Edge really stuck with me and is for me an example of how literature can make a good difference

I was amazed the last 50 pages were filled with such elaborate wisdom. I had never read this book before and didn't read any reviews until afterwards, but I was pleasantly surprised!! what a wonderful read.
