It’s Harry Potter and no surprise it’s great! It’s not quite as strong as some later ones in my opinion, but it’s still strong and the beginning of a series that never grows old.

Always a wonderful book to re-visit!

Did you think it would be any less than 5 stars. That's simply impossible, all the illustrations are awesome and they enhance the book's appeal and impact 100 fold. Jim Kay is also a magician just like J. K. Rowling and the proof is in the gorgeous drawings throughout the wonderful book. I am not going to talk about the story as 'come on do I say that aloud'. Story we all love and this edition improves on the story many a times.

Merged review:

Well this is just perfect and the drawings are superb

Obviously, there is no reason to summarize the story, so I will just say that I am an adult who had no interest whatsoever in reading the Harry Potter books until inundated by all the Harry Potter movies being shown on tv this Christmas. It was truly more than I hoped for- really enjoyable just as a story. I'm surprised and ...more

Originally I couldn't get in to the book. It was college and I wasn't as adept as losing myself in my imagination as I had been once upon a time. Fast forward 10 years or so. I watched the movies and was able to get lost in the wizard world. So I thought I would give the books another chance. I couldn't put it down. Once again the ability to be transported to another world was alive and well inside me. I look forward to the rest of the books. ...more

This was a pleasure to re-read. It felt like settling in with an old friend. I've updated my rating, because, while it is my least favorite of the series, it is the place where it all began. I love this series and can't wait to share it with my kids. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. ...more

Somehow having a British edition as a gift makes this one better than the others. :)
