“There’s a thick mist between the hills and us. I can’t see through it, but through it we shall have to go. Or into it, anyway.”

So begins this classic, epic tale of adventure. Or any venture into the unknown, for that matter. Likely, we’ve all been confronted with that same thick mist at least once or twice in our lives. Allegorical tale of faith/belief and the choices individuals/groups are forced to make for survival.

While I picked up this book at a young age, taken in by the lovely cover image of a rabbit, I missed a large amount of the book's subtext until I read it again in high school.

While ultimately uplifting, the trials and tribulations that follow a band of rabbits who believe in one young bunny's predictions are quite sad/depressing, although realistic given the world they live in.

A tribe of rabbits brave their way across the countryside to found a new home. They make some friends, make some enemies, tell stories about God-rabbit and commit piracy of a boat.

Not a bad book. I have been looking for a "group founds a civilization" type book, but didn't expect it to involve a group of bunnies.

A nice novel with a lot of nostalgia for me. I will never get rid of my copy that I got from my grandmother. The reading experience doesn't quite hold up to nostalgia, but it's still a fun ride.
