I generally love Loretta Chase but I could not work up much excitement for this book. In general, I'm not crazy about the drop-dead gorgeous, men-run-into-lamp-poles-when-she-passes-on-the-street type of heroine or about the type of characters who will lie, cheat or steal to get what they want. I was so let down by this book. I gave it a 2 instead of a 1 because I want to read the next in the series, and see how the two sisters meet their loves. I didn't understand the little comments at the beginning of each chapter. They didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to them. Witty dialogue and strong, likable characters in the Noirots and the Duke of Clevedon make Silk Is for Seduction (The Dressmakers, #1) by Loretta Chase a great read. Yes, being a fashionable modiste in the early 19th century required the quick thinking and tactical skills of a war strategist! Looking forward to the next book in the series. ...more

Ended up really enjoying this story. Have to admit, didn't like either one of the main characters at the beginning. A philandering Duke who has a sweet innocent girl waiting for him? A scheming, arrogant dressmaker? But, after the characters leave Paris and return to London, they started to become more real to me and more likable. Very much enjoyed the other two Noirot sisters, who will be the main characters of the other two books. ...more
