This is plain and simply a retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale in a conventional period romance sort of way. There are no real surprises in it if you already know the Cinderella story, and yet . . . this was super sweet to read. I truly enjoyed the story and got all smooshy inside when the hero and heroine find their happily ever after.

As Eloisa James notes in the book's "historical note" section: this book is a fairy tale and not a historical novel. I enjoyed The Essex Sisters series, and was looking forward to this book. I had to get past the first few chapters and the Cinderella fairy tale comparisons before I started to enjoy it. ...more

Loved it! I always enjoy reading different Cinderella stories- this one had me laughing and crying throughout! Wonderful characters, great dialogue and even a few truths related to the present time!
