I've given this a B+ at AAR, so that's 4.5 stars.
First things first. Other than in the title, this book bears no relation whatsoever to the movie How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, so please don’t let the title deter you from reading this well-told, poignant and romantic story! This is the second book in Ms Guhrke’s American Heiress in London series, and features one of the secondary characters from book one, Edie, Duchess of Margrave, a lady who is quite happy about the fact that her husband left E ...more

Review from 2015
B for narration /B+ for content.
How to Lose a Duke in Ten Days, the second book in Laura Lee Guhrke’s An American Heiress in London series, tells the story of a young woman who needs to marry quickly, but who doesn’t want a man in her life. Ever.
Edie Jewell is just nineteen, and is one of a number of immensely rich American heiresses searching the British aristocracy for a suitable husband. Unfortunately, she hasn’t met with success and she has only three more days before her ...more

It took a while to warm up to since Edie was so determined to get rid of Stuart. He returned after 5 years in Africa having promised her he would never return. He had married her to get out of debt and she needed to marry having been ruined in New York. So he left and she stayed to run his estates. All was working well until a tragic accident in Africa and Stuart decided it was time to come home. He convinced her to give him 10 days to earn his place in her life. It had a very heart-warming HEA.

Reminiscent of Sherry Thomas's books, this romance revolves around a married couple who have lived apart for 5 years. The wounded but most patient and understanding Stuart has to convince Edie, his wife with a tragic past, to kiss him within 10 days, or he loses her forever. I really liked the gentle romancing building up to the passion, but I had a hard time with a big decision one of the main character's made.

Loved the hero of this one and how determined he was to make it work with his wife. I wasn't so crazy about the beginning and how panicky and stubborn the heroine was (though I knew she had her reasons). The last half of this book won me over, though. I was happy for their happy ending.

I'm DNF-ing this. It isn't the book's fault AT ALL. (view spoiler) It kills me to put it down, but I need something light and fluffy right now and this is not it.
Do not let my three stars and DNF put you off of this one. From what I read, it's a really good book, with a fantastic, sweet hero and a heroine who has som ...more
