Huh! Too tired to write a proper review atm, but I will say that this book BECAME SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST FLUFF by the end. Also, it is wickedly funny but has a lot to think about beneath its' biting humour. --Jen from Quebec :0)

Now wasn't that the most unexpected page-turner? I raced to the end, and look forward to binge watching the TV series!

Little lies with big consequences. Jane is a young, struggling single mother recently moved to an Australian beach suburb with her five-year-old son, Ziggy. On their way to the orientation day for the local kindergarten class (the what? my jaw is already dropping) she meets a much more glittery and popular parent, Madeline, who introduces her to the beautiful Celeste, and for once it seems that Jane is destined to be one of the "in" crowd. But then things start to go wrong ...

For a book about sad and disturbing subjects, it is soooo fun to read, and mostly because of Madeline. For the first 25-50, pages, Madeline's first impression to the reader can be seen as somewhat loathesome, not unlike Where'd You Go, Bernadette, which is written horribly, but Please stick with Madeline; she will not disappoint! She's the perfect catalyst to lighten the mood and provide answers for the "broken" lives of Celeste and Jane.

I found this book so insipid I couldn't finish it.

I LOVED this book. It's smart, witty, and a total page-turner. I had to force myself to put the book down late at night so I could get some sleep, because all I wanted to do was keep going.
The format is perfect. The brief snippets at the beginning and end of each chapter let you know early on that there's a murder being investigated, but always very vaguely, so that you have no idea who is involved. The build-up from kindergarten mom drama to full on murder is slow but oh so satisfying and dram ...more

My second book by Australian author Liane Moriarty. I first read her in Hawai'i, a book from the VRBO book shelf. I had run out of physical library books during the COVID lockdown, so I was reluctantly reading books on my tablet. I was simultaneously watching the HBO adaptation on Hulu, which instead of taking place in Australia, takes place in Monterey, CA. The book is actually better than the series.

3.5 Stars
I loved the execution of this story but the story itself is one that has been told over and over again leaving me feeling “bleh”. The crux of the story deals with spousal abuse, bullying, rape, marriage problems, etc. It is probably better suited for readers who have not read about these subjects time and time again. The fact that the reader knows right up front that someone has been murdered is what interested me enough to continue to the end. I wanted to know who was murdered! All in ...more
