First the bad -
I get annoyed with series books that are deliberately obtuse as an excuse for multiple books. The “mystery” of Sal is obvious from the first page. And I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be obvious, but the big reveal happens on the last page. *Everybody* in the book except Nathan and Sal know, and allude to this, and it’s dumb. I mean, fine. Sal knows but does not want to know and that makes sense. But Nate? He has a case of the smart-dumbs and I *hate* that.

It was hard for me to separate my dislike for the weak, naive main character - from what I thought about this book. It was a slow burn, and at first, I wasn't really into it. I was so annoyed with her, and this in turn made me annoyed with the book. But, it did get better as things unfolded - slowly - and the ending was .... not really an ending but more of a ... to be continued. I don't like when books in a series don't stand on their own.
