This might be a good book, but the audiobook is terrible. The monotonous bratty tone of the narrator for the main character is too much to get over. I’m sure it was a deliberate choice (as the tone changes for other characters) and perhaps it is dropped as the character progresses but after two chapters I had to tap out.

No narration from sentient pagodas in this novel (see Please Ignore Vera Dietz), but there was so much genuine kindness and thoughtfulness--and attention paid to the process of being kind and being thoughtful--that I loved this story on its own terms.
