"All those years, waiting for the Army, and it turns out the Army is us."

When I started this story, I loved it! I was completely hooked. It starts - the beginning of the end - in a way I thought was interesting and believable. But it's a long story - one that spans years upon years and groups of people that live and die. They fight and struggle and...somewhere a long the way, it all just gets....boring. It's hard to enjoy a story when you don't connect or want to connect to any of the characters ...more

This is one of the most frustrating books I have ever read. It took me over a month to power through it. I was going to give up many times. It is densely written & could have used some good editing. There are too many characters to keep straight or care about. Occasionally characters would DIE and I would have no recollection of who they even were. It is dreary and dark and depressing.
