I'll admit that it took me a little while to accept the premise of this book. (For some reason, I have a block against current, paranormal YA). But the writing was smooth enough - and it was a breath of fresh air from the previous book I'd read - so I continued on. And eventually I was won over.

The characters held true and continued to develop. The mechanics of this paranormal world were fairly consistent with themselves. What could have been a very typical love triangle didn't fall prey to stan ...more

I had a hard time getting into this book at first, but I think that was me rather than the book. Once I got going though I loved this. I'd been wanting to read this series forever and just couldn't manage to get my hands on this at the library. I was a bit concerned that having just read Shiver when I picked this up the books were going to be too similar, both being by the same author, but they are very different books - in subject matter, in feel, in writing style even. I WANT to love Maggie Stiefvater like everyone else does, but I always feel like I'm missing something! I'd probably really just give this book a 3.5, but I bumped it up because the characters are great and because I'm always hooked by stories featuring psychics. ...more

I'm definitely still enthralled by this story. By Blue and Her Raven Boys, by the magic and the fate, by the glimpses of the future, by the promises we get from the very first series that set us up for how our hearts will be broken in another book or two. I've got so much piqued interest all across this first book though.
