The year 2014 should have been a banner one for humanity with cures for the common cold and cancer hitting the market. But then something went terribly wrong as the two cures worked together to create a virus that turns human beings into zombies, bringing on the zombie apocalypse.

"Everything is 'just a story.' Tragedy, comedy, end of the world, whatever, it's just a story. What matters is making sure it's heard."

I'm so glad I finally got my hands on a copy of this first book. It's a wonderful look at journalism and end times - all in the hands of zombies. This book is just too cool for words - I love the double entendre of the title, with the book's dual emphasis on zombie apocalypse and news media. It's a Zombie apocalypse. Only this is about much more than zombies. In fact, there were a couple of missed chances for some zombie-mayhem and I felt it could have done with a bit more chomping action and fewer of the seemingly constant descriptions of blood tests. At its heart, this is a novel about American politics and the media in a world that just happens to be overrun with, well, zombies. Also a sad and unexpected ending.

It's part of a trilogy, and I will be reading the other books.
