I didn't realize when I first started this book, that it was a retelling of The Jungle Book. Honestly it said graveyard and was by Neil Gaiman and that was literally all I needed to know to want to read it.
I had a lovely little time as I read along trying to figure out which characters here translated to the characters in TJB. Some were obvious, Silas had to be Baghera. The Sleer had to be Kaa. Nobody Owens, Bod for short, is a toddler when his family is murdered by a man named Jack. Bod manages to escape and end up in a graveyard. Two of the ghosts in the graveyard adopt Bod and Silas, a mysterious figure who isn't alive or dead, becomes his guardian. Gaiman fully imagines the ghosts in the graveyard and Bod's world growing up there. It took me awhile to get into the book but by the end I was entranced and wished the book was longer.
