I wasn't sure what I was expecting with the start of this series, but whatever my expectations, I really liked it. I thought Charley Davidson was the kind of kick-ass, funny, sassy heroine that I just love and there was just the right amount of humour, romance and plot to make the book a great read. I loved the whole concept of Charley being able to talk to the dead. I think one of the funniest parts was when the dead lawyer, Elizabeth, was sitting between Charley and Garrett (although the latte ...more

Charley Davidson is the Grim Reaper - which basically means she is a sparkly portal that ghosts cross through to get to the right plane of existence, she remembers the day she was born, she heals ultra-fast, and oh, yeah, she sees dead people! She is also really snarky, being haunted by a sexy something-or-other and trying to solve the murder of three lawyers that were all double-tapped the same night. I enjoyed the mystery Charley is trying to solve, but like some other b

First line: I’d been having the same dream for the past month—the one where a dark stranger materialized out of smoke and shadows to play doctor with me.

First Grave on the Right is the start of an urban fantasy series staring Charley Davidson, a grim reaper and a self-proclaimed "certified connoisseur of sarcasm." She's an awesome character - she can remember every day since the day she was born, she intuitively knows every language on Earth, she sees dead people. And she's got a wicked sense of

“No dead people beyond this door,' " he read aloud from beyond the door. " 'And, yes, if you suddenly have the ability to walk through walls, you're dead. You're not lying somewhere in a drainage ditch waiting to wake up. Get over it, and stay the hell out of my bathroom.”

Cute, light and fluffy. It was even silly and a bit funny. But it just didn't hold my attention. The few parts that had me chuckling were in between stretches were I was just....bored. I didn't really care who the guy was she

I picked up this book because all the reviews said it was similar to the Stephanie Plum novels. And it is, with one major difference - Janet Evanovich manages to make her books funny. First Grave on the Right is just trying entirely too hard to wisecrack. In a good comic novel the author knows when to tone down the humor - without those contrasting moments of quite the humor begins to grate. There were plenty of times when I was like "lay off with the puns, Charlie - things are getting real!"

Oh my goodness! Why did I wait so long to get to know Charley Davidson!!! This book was so much fun!

Charley's a grim reaper and she helps souls pass on through the light and she just happens to be that light as well. She has been talking to ghost since she was little and once her father a policeman figured out that she really could talk to the dead he used her often to help him close cases. Now that has been passed on to her Uncle (UB is what she likes to call him).

Not every case is that simple

I found the mythology of this book very interesting. I am looking forward to learning more about grim reapers and other supernatural beings as the series progresses. Charlie is a fun character - she has just the right amount of sassiness to do her job. The ghosts that she works with were all great characters and I hope that they appear again in subsequent books. Charlie does have a love interest in the book and there were a couple of steamy scenes - but I don't want to give anything away about h ...more

I'd heard a lot about this book, so finally decided to give it a read. It was good, Charlie was interesting. But it just didn't grab me. I'll most likely read the second one, to see if it gets more interesting - first book is always strong in world building and because of that I like to give a series 2 books. But right now, interesting but not wow. ...more

Charley Davidson is a PI and the Grim reaper. She can see dead people and help them cross over. Charley is helping her Uncle Bob solve the case of three lawyers who were murdered. She is also trying to figure out why she keeps having steamy dreams about Reyes Farrow a man she has met once. An ok paranormal romance. Interesting enough that I'll look up the next book in the series. ...more
