"I am not keeping back facts. Every fact that I know is in your possession. You can draw your own deductions from them."

I love starting this series over. I've never read it, only watched shows and/or plays of the Poirot so it was a great treat to start the book series. I can see why this one is listed as the first. It's the meeting up, again, of Hastings and Poirot.

And wow! Hastings does not have any faith in Poirot yet. He spends the whole time thinking he knows/sees/thinks more than Poirot. I

1st read: 4/5 stars

2nd read: 5/5 stars
Okay... I read this book years ago, but upon rereading it I liked it even more even though I knew the ending. That's also probably because I read it in English this time and it was simply better. I enjoyed Poirot more and the other characters too. Christie is a master at creating each character and a mystery and playing with your mind and patience at the same time!

LOVED IT!

It was good to go right back to the beginning of Hercule Poirot. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the mystery and enjoyed how Poirot worked it all out. Hastings, the narrator, was an absolute idiot though and it ...more

Over and over again, I can pick up an Agatha Christie novel and be surprised again as to how she lays out the story and the clues and leads to the resolution. Hercule Poirot is still one of my favorite literary characters of all time, and again reading about his beginning makes me smile. Hastings is the perfect foil and narrator for this story.

Imagine a story so compelling and so well narrated that you simply can't stop listening. That is just the way I feel about David Suchet's narration of this book. Both are worth all five stars. Of course, I've seen Suchet as Hercule Poirot on TV and he is wonderful. But his ability to handle all the other voices in the story are as masterful as his well-known interpretation of the little Belgian detective. The Mysterious Affair at Styles is one of those books that I've meant to get around to for ...more
