I rather liked this book, which is unexpected since Laura gave me a rave review of the whole series as being something she'd read in a spree all at once in 2020 (among a handful of other recs I've already been knocking down).

I loved the sweeping history, and had no troubles keeping track of the races, families, or the political interplay between specific characters and larger political swaths of larger grouped people. I was most interested in any and all ...more

Shelves: 50-poc, fantasy

Gripping and complex story about people caught up in prejudice and culture, everyone trying to do right but grappling with compromises that betray each other. I found Nahri more sympathetic than Ali, but both had good stories.
