It has been a long time since I dissected the works of Shakespeare. If We Were Villains is a book I have heard many good things about, and I wanted to give it a try. M.L. Rio writes in a captivating way, while Oliver narrates the occurrences of the Shakespearan murder during his college senior year, the whole story happens in a day. I found the use of direct quotes, adapted quotes, performance, and homage richly compelling and innovative.

My ignorance in all things Shakespeare related really hindered my enjoyment of this novel. I have always found his stuff kind of snoozy. And this book just had too much Shakespeare. The kids even converse in quotes during normal every day conversations. It was all just over my head. Guess I'm too much of a dummy to get this.
