Ugh.. Yep, I tried reading this one AGAIN. I was really hoping some distance and fresh eyes would make me like this more
but it just didn't. Between the HUGE info dumps ever other paragraph and the boring dialogue, it was hard for me to want to pick it up after I'd put it down. I even had trouble remembering the story line even though I'd just read it (AND I'd already read it before). I just couldn't connect with any of the characters.

I didn't like that this story line was EXACTLY like Mortal Instruments. Tessa didn't have nearly the strong personality or presence, and (let's face it), can anyone ever really be another Jace? The love draw was just not there ~ I didn't buy it at all. And, the book was just boring at times. I had to make myself pick it up and see if it got to a more interesting part.
I *DID* like the return of Magnus Bane. I couldn't help smile when he came back up. It was great to visit with an old friend ;) ...more

I wonder if you could love the story but not enjoy the writing so much? Well, I didn't think the writing was that special on this one but I do love the story - I like the unfolding of the plot and I absolutely love how each character has his / her own 'secretive' past who makes them who they are now (this is the highlight for me).

This book completes my 2014 reading challenge of 52 books! In August! Woohoo!
The first half dragged along a bit, but the second half was great and I got really invested in the story and the characters. Definitely going to read the next one as well.
One small thing that bothered me and still us is that I had a kind of deja-vu feeling some times. I mean, I know they are different characters and it's a different story set in the same universe... but somehow the characters and particularly the relati ...more

I actually found that I preferred reading Clockwork Angel compared to the Mortal Instruments series, the writing as better and the set of 1800s steampunk/Victorian London is really indulgent and fascinating to imagine.
Is this a meaningful, life changing, devastatingly original book? No.
Is it lots of fun with charming characters and a plot that keeps you turning pages? Yes.
And as I write this I'm opening amazon to download the next one, fingers crossed it's as good as this one!

I knew I would enjoy this book because I enjoy The Mortal Instruments series, and though I know the characters are different, the general idea is the same. What I didn't expect was the confusion I'd have between the characters between series.
However, once I read the 4th TMI book, the "confusion" settled down a bit. And I think I may have actually enjoyed this book a little more. I did like all the characters, and there's just something about the start of a story that I like. I like seeing where ...more

I enjoyed this infinitely more than the mortal instruments series and can't wait to read the next two. Although to be fair I really liked the first three mortal instruments when they were intended to be a trilogy and now that it's an on going series it just isn't very good anymore and I probably won't read the rest of them (I've read the first four so far) unless I'm extremely bored and/or don't have anything else left to read.
