Ugh.. Yep, I tried reading this one AGAIN. I was really hoping some distance and fresh eyes would make me like this more
but it just didn't. Between the HUGE info dumps ever other paragraph and the boring dialogue, it was hard for me to want to pick it up after I'd put it down. I even had trouble remembering the story line even though I'd just read it (AND I'd already read it before). I just couldn't connect with any of the characters.

I approached this book with a great deal of trepidation. I've heard mixed reviews of the author, and I've read some truly terribly steampunk. To my surprise I really enjoyed this book, love triangle and all!
Unlike many victorian/steampunk books I didn't feel as though the steampunk elements were an afterthought. The clockwork creatures were integral to the plot and made sense in the universe. I knew I would enjoy this book because I enjoy The Mortal Instruments series, and though I know the characters are different, the general idea is the same. What I didn't expect was the confusion I'd have between the characters between series.
However, once I read the 4th TMI book, the "confusion" settled down a bit. And I think I may have actually enjoyed this book a little more. I did like all the characters, and there's just something about the start of a story that I like. I like seeing where ...more

Loved this book! I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out! I read someone else's review that said it was boring in parts...I didn't find the "down" times boring...this book didn't have as much action as the Mortal Instruments series...but the quieter parts of the book were still really good. It was more about character and story development. I really liked it!

Not really into steampunk, but the characters here were great, and the story interesting so I didn't really notice.
