3.75 stars, truly.

This is the story of two stars, Billy and Daisy, who come together with Billy's band, The Six, and take the world by storm. But of course, they have all sorts of issues; egos, drugs, love. All the things that go with rock and roll.

It's so very, very interesting and so very, very readable, but not quite compelling - as in, it's not emotionally draining and tearing and exhausting. I think that's mostly because of how the story is told, which is in a documentary/interview-type f ...more

First off - unless you're one of those "never audiobook" people, please get the audio version of this book. Even if you are one of those people, this is the book that will change your mind. Read by an all-star cast, the book simply sings with their voices far better than reading the words on the page ever could. The narrators bring every character uniquely to life.

You will find it hard to believe Daisy Jones and the Six did not actually exist. And you will wish that they did. You will find it hard to believe Daisy Jones and the Six did not actually exist. And you will wish that they did. The oral history of what is presented as one of the most important bands on the 70s is filled with the insider dirt we all craved about our favorite performers. Although this is a far more sordid tale than would have ever been revealed at the time, probably not even in Rolling Stone. And each part of it is told from someone's specific viewpoint - or maybe several people's viewpoints, who each saw the same thing but also saw it in completely different ways - giving the reader the ability to draw inferences, pick out unreliable narrators, and draw new opinions of each character.

Daisy is a beautiful child of beautiful people to caught up in themselves too pay any attention to their daughter. So she wanders the Los Angeles and Hollywood of the mid- to late-60s, drinking in not only the rock and roll culture but also anything alcoholic or pharmaceutical that comes her way. Not only is she gorgeous but she has an amazing voice - except Daisy doesn't want to just sing other people's words. She wants to sing her own songs.

On the other side of the country, the Dunne brothers and their friends started playing in garages, then small gigs, slowly getting bigger and bigger. Lead singer Billy Dunne is a force but one who can go spinning off with a handful a pills, so he clings to his lodestar, his wife.

When their record company decides to put them together, magic happens. The quintessential Super-Group is created. And with it all the drama that entails. All we know from early in the book is that something happened and the band simply dissolved. But oh how you'll enjoy finding out all about it. ...more

I loved this! The way this was written in interview format worked so well, I was hooked from the beginning. Also, I expected so much more cliche drama and TJR didn’t go there. I was so pleased with how this went from start to finish.
