There are mystery books for readers who crave a mind-bending, gripping mystery that combines clever twists and turns with a deep exploration of themes such as redemption and the power of justice. The story's premise is interesting, but I think I prefer watching newer British mysteries to reading them. The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle reminds me of the TV series Downton Abbey because of the mansion and the characters.

A man wakes up in a forest on the country estate of Blackheath. He has no memory except for the name 'Anna' and the sense that he is not himself. But nothing is as it seems here, not even the title of the book which was originally 'The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' when it was first published in the UK and changed to 'The Seven and a Half Deaths' in the USA version. How many deaths must this Evelyn suffer?

This was an incredibly unique book, very creative the way it was told. But I spent the majority of it horribly confused. I listed to the audio version of that, and perhaps that was my mistake - this might be a book you need the hardcopy of so you can flip back and re-read sections. But I spent so much time trying to figure out what was going on, that when they finally explained the major premise, it wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the book.
