Powerful book. Hard to read in spots, but so well written. Gyasi's novel is an interconnected series of short stories following the lineage of two sisters through the years of colonized Africa and the slave trade to America. The individual stories from different characters in different points of time allow an intimate portrait of individual dreams and fears, all set against the institutionalized racism and violence of the day. Homegoing is a book with a lot of hype, and I am a reader who likes to read exciting books when the stardust has settled down a little bit. It is incredible that Yaa Gyasi wrote this unique debut story only at the age of 25. Some parts of the story reminded me of the TV series Roots.
