I have absolutely no idea why it took me so long to read this. I was hooked from the beginning. Sure, the lore is incredibly dense and the ideas are complex, but the writing is so well done that it reads very smoothly. The characters are interesting and their interactions even more so. I was fascinated by the powers that the Bene Gesserit learn and pass through the generations. And that is just what makes this book so fascinating. It was alright... I was honestly expecting better with all the accolades and such. I don't really like books that do big jumps in time. Like two years and suddenly this person is with this person and they have all these abilities or are leaders. I like seeing that transformation happen not just being told it happened. I think it is kinda lazy on the author's part. I know, probably not a popular opinion, but it is mine.

Holy cow, what a good book. I enjoyed every page. I love the desert backdrop. I loved all the characters, although during the end fight scene I found myself wishing Herbert had developed Feyd-Rautha a little more. This was excellent! It helped me tremendously, I think, that someone likened it to GoT with the house histories and such. My mind was ready for the template. I don't think I'll keep reading the series right now, though; I sense a convulted future for these characters! #GreatAmericanRea
