Part of this read was viewing my younger self reading this - hi past me! Part was seeing the age marks and noticing how the world has changed — women are people, gender is variable, colonialism has problems, ecology is complicated. But it’s ambition and commitment still make the pages turn, and the action is well done and gom jabbers are still both really cool and rather idiotic, and fear is the mind killer that I let pass through me.

Spring 2020 (April - Sarah's BookClub for May);

I wanted to like this book so much more than I ended up liking this book. I should have taken it as a sign, when the first time I picked it up a few months ago, I read through a few chapters (yes, all the way past the test & The Fear Speech) and then put it down because I couldn't get into it.

This book was just kind of okay. It also felt like it lasted forever and I found myself just wanting it to be over and done. I have no interest in continuing on with this series.

it takes a bit to figure out what is happening. you're not going to get much backstory. copy i had, had a glossary in the back that explained some terms....found that out when i finished it. would have been nice to know that before that. ...more
