What Members Thought
"people really are like houses with vast rooms and tiny windows. And maybe it's a good thing, the way we never stop surprising each other."
I can't even count the many many ways I love this book. THIS. THIS Right here! I love it! The ridiculously giddy adorable conversations between Blue and Jacques. The sweet way their story unfolds.
But also how tough it is to be 'not the norm' in Georgia. I had no idea...NO idea until moving here just how..different it feels from where I'm from. And that littl ...more

After accidentally not logging out of his e-mail account on the school library computer, Simon Spier finds himself being blackmailed by fellow classmate Martin. Martin wants Simon to play wingman with Abby, the popular new girl at school and help Martin get the inside track on a date with her. Simon goes along because what Martin saw could not only force Simon to come out of the closet sooner than he'd like to but also drive away his new anonymous pen-pal and crush.

This is a great book. It brings homosexual relationships into a healthy and accessible light. It shows how homosexual and heterosexual love are basically the same. It's just semantics. The parents are all wonderful. The teens are well thought out.
Many of the things that happen are things that would happen in real life. I could totally visualize this high school. I loved how Simon had many more supporters than he realized. Who knew? This book WAS set in Georgia, where I figured he'd be strung up ...more

Fun and sweet if a little bit too saccharine
A tender, smart, heartfelt coming-of-age/coming-out story.
I actually loved this story. I was so emotional on so many levels.
Simon went through so much from being blackmail to trying to come out as being gay on his own terms. So turning to a boy name Blue online was his way in talking about being gay to this gay that's gay and in the closet too.
They connect with a bond with one another.
Loved his friends and family. They all were so supportive.
I couldn't put this book down I just wanted to know who Blue was so I kept reading and reading until I was done ...more

I.ADORED.THIS.BOOK. Simon is freaking adorable. I love that he and Blue fall in love over email. They get to know each other's hearts instead of being bogged down by all the other stuff. It made it so so much more impactful when they finally meet in real life. I laughed and cried during this book. It was so real. The friendships between Simon, Nick, Leah and Abby were sweet and I appreciated that it wasn't perfect. They had normal teen problems but they worked through them.
