This is a book I probably would not have picked up if I had seen in the bookstore or the library. I read it because it was voted as the best historical fiction on goodreads.

All I can say is thank goodness I read it. The story from the first page kept me entranced and I wanted to read it all in one sitting. Powerful emotions and imagery throughout the story.

While covering difficult subject matter, Ms. Hannah writes about forgotten characters in history - what WWII looked like from a woman's point of view and the suffering, struggles, and resistance efforts from women while most men were missing. I know it's good when a book makes me cry unexpectedly. It's a ww2 book so crying may often be expected by most (myself included), but it's not something I expected this time for myself.
