My daughter suggested I read this book. I have heard all about Bardugo's Grisha trilogy, but just haven't started them yet. I might move them up in my TBR pile. I really enjoyed this fantasy story. It had engaging, complex characters, and the world building was well done. I know this is a YA and the characters are all supposed to be around 17, but, as soon as I started reading it, I'd automatically made them older - like mid-twenties older. This book surprised me! I'm not a huge fan of most YA books and i was unsure of this one. However the art on the cover is just stunning and it made me curious. This is a story of a rag tag group of criminals with nothing to lose and everything against them. The characters are well developed and the writing is terrific. I found myself rooting for these guys and trying to figure out where the next twist in the story was going to come from. Cannot wait to read the next in the series. ...more
