What Members Thought

Wow, much more than I was expecting in this debut novel. I got caught up in the web of intrigue and found it to be captivating and intense within the first few pages.
Told from several alternating POVs on a timeline that changes from past to present and back within the storyline, it transitions smoothly. The plot is laid out well without giving the big reveal away too soon. It is filled with emotion and suspense. Some things unfold as expected and others are a complete surprise.

I'm finding this one difficult to rate but I think it's more like a 2 and a half stars. I didn't hate it but it wasn't great. I found the story line to be predictable - I figured out 'the twist' almost immediately. Although it was very suspenseful, it did feel like a debut novel. I found a few issues in the writing itself. Yet, I did enjoy the reading experience - it was fast paced, an 'easy' and fast read. I wish it had been a little stronger but it wasn't a bad read. If you like this sort of b

A really intriguing story. I liked the way the author went back and forth to times before and after Mia's kidnapping. Just when you think you have it figured out, you're taken a different direction and find yourself wondering who is really behind this. Or, at least, I did. I read a lot of reviews and it seems like everyone but me had it figured out from page one. Oh well, that just made this more enjoyable for me I suppose. The twist at the end took me by surprise and I'm still a bit in shock by

Pretty good. Usually I hate books that jump around a lot in time and go from character to character, but it worked perfectly here. The book jacket really ruined the surprise, though. And I'm embarrassed that it took me a week to finish this...should have been done in a day.

I would consider this more of a mystery than a thriller. Mia gets kidnapped but the turnover goes wrong, and she and the kidnapper end up hiding out in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. But because the story jumps back and forth in time (before/during the kidnapping to after she's returned) there's no question that Mia does come back. So the page-turning have-to-find-out-what-happens-next aspect of a thriller wasn't really there for me. Instead, you slowly learn more about the circumstances of t
