I can't give it more than 2 stars bc of how close I was to giving up partway through. The writing is beautiful and poetic and sounds so nice but there was... nothing happening. I feel like it got lost in itself. I cared entirely too little about Arthur and Co. and pls, unless you're the Count of Monte Cristo don't make me do the backwards brain "figure out the relevance later" thing.

But the pandemic bits were fun, when we got them (including the present day stuff, minus the symphony, mostly).Jus ...more

Shelves: audiobook, fiction, dystopia, post-apocolyptic

Count me among the few that actively disliked this book. It's been a while since I read it, and I've talked with a number of other readers about it, and while I can appreciate what they liked, it hasn't changed my feelings at all. I found the story ridiculously unbelievable. Not that a plague couldn't wipe out 97 percent of the world's population, but the ways in which the survivors go on living.
