I'm always wary about literary fiction, but this story completely captivated me. The short chapters kept it easy to digest and made me want to race to the finish. I was swept away by Marie-Laure and Werner's stories and couldn't wait to see what would happen to them. I haven't read much about the German occupation of France, and I appreciated that new insight into that part of WWII. Marie-Laure in particular was such a beautiful character, and her relationship with her father, great-uncle, the w ...more

I loved this book. I liked the multiple MCs, and how they understood the world from their viewpoints. Also I don't think I've ever rooted for a 'bad guy' to loose so badly, in quite a while. ...more

Gripping start, but slow end

I enjoyed this novel till about the last 60 pages where it seemed to drag on and on. Overall it was a good read and would recommend it.
