I really enjoyed the story of the diamond that was the basis of this fantastic novel. The characters were rich , and I was so connected to all of them. Even after I turned the last page (figuratively speaking since I read it on my iPad), I continue to think about them and how their lives interconnected. A definite must-read!!!

I have read many of the Pulitzer Prize winning novels and thought, "why did this win?", happily that is not the case for this novel.

Beautifully written between the stories of two young people in the midst of WWII, this novel brings home what it was like for common people to live through the horror that was WWII. Don't let the war fool you though, this is more of a study of characters, rather than a study of war.

I highly recommend this novel. ...more
