Cadence is the oldest grandchild in a rich family. All of the family spends each summer on a private island off of Cape Cod. Cadence spends most of her time with her cousins Johnny and Mirren along with Gat who is the nephew of one of her aunts boyfriends. Shelves: thriller, ya, still-owned
I had not expected this book to be as great as it was, but I was so impressed by it. The atmosphere which is created throughout, both because of the voice, the banter and discussion between the characters and the short sentences and rapid-fire paragraphs was exceptional. There was a chill across the whole story, and the ending - the twist - was so completely unexpected that I felt a physical jolt when I read it. Well crafted story

This is the story of a dysfunctional family. I didn’t predict the ending at all. I enjoyed the story overall but the ending left me sad and unsatisfied. I’m just not sure what to think of it.

For such a talented writer, I wish E. Lockhart hadn't wasted it on a tired old plot twist. I was really enjoying the story of Cady and her missing memories, up until Part 5. Twists are risky, and when they don't work for some readers they REALLY don't work. I hated the ending. That said, the writing is beautiful and I liked having to use my brain and piece things together myself instead of having it all spoon fed to me.
