This is the third of what I consider three very important volumes in Tolkien studies exploring the development of the great mythic strands of Tolkien’s great tales which serve as key elements of his world-building. Much has been written about The Fall of Gondolin strand which I all agree with - this is indeed a great tale envisioned out of Tolkien’s own experience of war and developed throughout his work on the legendarium.
