My favourite work of fiction. I think I have read it 4 times now. This last time, I tried to read it slow, to soak in the depth a bit more. I tried to tune in to all the echoes/metaphors throughout the book -- I love the way Tolkien tells such an epic story, and it makes me appreciate the epic adventure that life in light of the gospel is. There are echoes of Jesus -- and the epic story of God working within this world -- all through the book.

In my opinion, THE masterwork of fiction in the English language. Tolkien's combination of histories, races, languages, mythology and compelling story and characters is sheer genius. I've read it six times and haven't tired of it yet. ...more
