Thank you Josh for offering this beautiful tidbit free to your readers. What a treat!
A beautiful short story of war, love and fear. The reader is in the middle of the firefights and the emotional toll on the fighters. Josh Lanyon knows how to write a story. Even in a short story the reader does not feel shortchanged. There is so much in this story. The characters are real. Their fears are real. Read this one. You will not be disappointed.

A bit too short in order to really bond with the characters. I was missing more detailed background information of the characters. There was some, of course, but this story takes place in 1916, a time when so many things were so different. On top of that, there was a war taking place.
I couldn't get into the story, didn't reallly get the time it takes place in and its characters, their motivation and feelings.
I think that it wouldn't have hurt the story to be a bit longer.
All in all, a nice enou ...more
