This is a beautiful story. It's very well done. There's a pilot and a mechanic and they are living through hell and finding hope and love regardless. This is short, but so full and so rich.

So short yet so full of feeling and pathos. 2 men who should be worlds apart. Can they find solace and love with each other or will the end of WWII and the defeat of German tear them apart. I usually want more when I read a good short story, but this story was as near perfect as possible. A beautiful & touching view of a horrible time.
The research was amazing. I look forward to the novel also based on this research. Aleksandr Voinov is an amazing writer.

I am not usually a fan of short stories as I never feel I've had enough time to connect with the characters, but not in this case. It says something for the power of the story when at 80% I was fending off tears to get to the end.
