I actually finished this with my e-book because I was so close to the end when I got out of the car this afternoon....I liked this book, just like I've liked most of the other books in this series...Alex didn't annoy me as much as the other females leads have in other books within this season...She was ok...Loved Kade, didn't really pay much attention to him until reading his story just now...This one also gave a lot more insight into the ancient and what was going on within his psyche; in previ I actually finished this with my e-book because I was so close to the end when I got out of the car this afternoon....I liked this book, just like I've liked most of the other books in this series...Alex didn't annoy me as much as the other females leads have in other books within this season...She was ok...Loved Kade, didn't really pay much attention to him until reading his story just now...This one also gave a lot more insight into the ancient and what was going on within his psyche; in previous books they're constantly discussed here and there and always captured by the bad guys and imprisoned, I like that we got into it's head a bit...that was interesting to me...

I definately think that if you were someone who have not read previous books in the series you may not be overwelmed by this book...But, being someone who is following the series you would definately appreciate the little bits and insights that the author gives to characters that we have read about in this series so far including the main story of Kade and Alex....I think that they are absolutely adorable together and liked the love scenes a lot between the two there was a great deal of tenderness even though she did kind of kick out really quickly to him in the cabin after knowing him for like two days I think...But, hey, they're both adults and things happen...

What was the main aha moment for me here was the end where Jenna has her encounter with the ancient...I read these books out of order and started with the last one that was published, "Taken By Midnight," which was Brock and Jenna's story...This book was my first introduction to the series and I didn't love it, nor did I have a clue who all of these characters were...But, now after having read "Shades of Midnight," I totally understand exactly how their story begun and can apppreciate it much more....

Verdict: Must read for fans of the series, why, because it has more insight into the characters we love, great series read for lovers of paranormal romance, but, like my friend Francesca warned me this is definately one in the series you need to have read the books before it to truly grasp what's going on within the plot for this particular read...Overall, I liked it:) ...more

I found this was a decent read and as my library doesn't have much Lara Adrian I haven't read but a book or two in this series. I like her take on the Vampires it's kinda different which is always good...the only thing I didn't care for was that the characters in this book felt a lil stereotypical, meaning their formula is just too familiar and predictable. ...more
