I better get rolling on my review before it never gets written and while the book is still in my mind. BURNED took how many freaking years to write, two years or something and my most anticipated book turned out to be such a disappointment. I really enjoyed this! After Iced, I was so skeptical but Burned reaffirmed why I enjoy KMM's books. I had no expectations, maybe that isn't true -- I had negative expectations. I thought this book would suck. I strongly disliked Iced, here is my review on GR to see how strongly I disliked it. I did not believe that KMM could salvage this series. Yes, there are some crazy plot devices that I am not a fan of and perhaps too many buried messages from KMM to her readers answering or responding to n I really enjoyed this! After Iced, I was so skeptical but Burned reaffirmed why I enjoy KMM's books. I had no expectations, maybe that isn't true -- I had negative expectations. I thought this book would suck. I strongly disliked Iced, here is my review on GR to see how strongly I disliked it. I did not believe that KMM could salvage this series. I never thought I would find my self in this position but I am now longing for more Mac and waiting for Fever #8. Note, the only spoilers in this review are marked.

Look, Burned is not the first five books of Fever. That exquisite obsession I had with those books will never apply to the spin-off. However, for me the series is back on track and I found it very enjoyable. Yet ..., I did think it was annoying (funny?) the various times that KMM seems to step out of the story and address her readers to explain her mistakes in Iced and reason with us as to why she did what she did. So I have a list of explanations and almost apologies that KMM presents in Burned to her readers, anyone else notice these? These almost seem to be an answer to every bad review I read about Iced.

Plot devices. This book is full of plot devices to tell a story that may have been originally plotted out one way, but after Iced (I believe) had to be told another way. I think these plot devices could make or break the story for many readers. For me, the big one was funny in the sense that I thought it was funny that KMM would do it. And I think it was slightly lazy, but in the end it kept Mac in the story and I enjoyed it. But ... these devices need to be discussed.

Okay you may have heard, there is a cliffhanger. But can KMM write a book without one? This was the best cliffhanger that KMM has ever written. She had some doozies before - the cliffie at the end of FaeFever, then the one at the end of The Kiss of the Highlander or the one at the end of The Dark Highlander. This cliffhanger brings good news, so I am okay with it. But also, I just can't get worked up over KMM's cliffhangers anymore - sorry honey, I am over it.

In the end, I like that Mac's story is not over. Really, it was not over at the end of Shadowfever, she still had so much going on! So give me more Mac. ...more

I had forgotten that this book had multiple povs, which I loved, and that it was the return of Mac's pov after being in Dani's head for the previous book.

Every time I read these books, I just want more, more, more. It satisfies, while also leaving me wanting.

This book picks up where the other ended: with a much-anticipated confrontation. Things don't go as expected for either party, and someone ends up somewhere they shouldn't.

Then we have the arrival of new sidhe-seers, and Mac getting back in action after being inactive, with her groupies following her around (who evidently smell bad and makes her smell bad, lol and they have a bit of mystery surrounding them). Kat is having an existential crisis. And my favorite of all is Lor and his situation (after he gets help).

I didn't realize how much I missed Mac's pov until I got it again. I absolutely love this chick!!

At first I wasn't sure if going back to her pov would throw the story as a whole off or not, but I understand the method to Ms. Moning's madness. (The woman is brilliant). We definitely needed this to segue from Dani's arc in the series to what's to come and then go back to Dani and beyond.

It may seem to some that not much happened in this story, but so many avenues were opened that I didn't see or maybe even want to know before diving into this gem. I was at the point where I was thinking I was ready to get out of this world and away from the characters (which is why I'm just now getting back into the series after being a devoted fan from the beginning), but I was so wrong.

I want to see everyone get their own story or at least more details about them on updates about everyone else. I am now a greedy, greedy reader. All of the nine,Kat, and the rest of the sidhe seers, Christian, and the rest of the Keltars, etc....

This book has reinvigorated me to jump back into this series with gusto.

No, I'm not saying anything about what actually happened in the story. It's hard to do that and not give anything away. I will say that this book is multiple povs, and we even get a glimpse into Barrons' head. ...more

Alright it's been almost three months so I'm putting this one back on the shelf for now. Hopefully I will pick it back up at some point in the future as I'd like to continue with the series. I mean, I made it this far...I want to finish the series when it reaches its ultimate conclusion. But for some reason I just could not get into this book. I don't know if it's the sharp switch from Mac in book #5 to Dani in #6 and now back to Mac in this one. By the end of Iced I was used to Dani and was ok ...more

I haven't expected most of it. And I didn't get why the book is titled "Burned". I feel myself cheated, but I understand that most of my disappointment comes from my great expectations. The book is still good and interesting. It felt like a building ground for the next book. And I will definitely be reading the next one. ...more

3.5 stars. Slow to start. Didn’t get good till the end. Then of course she leaves it with a cliffhanger. The type that has you turning the page back and forward like surely your book is missing a chapter.
